She is also the visionary behind Trade Not Riba, a groundbreaking initiative advocating Islamic Social Entrepreneurship as a viable, ethical alternative to interest-based economic systems. Her doctoral research has produced pioneering models that are reshaping conversations around sustainability, economic justice, and community empowerment—impacting both Muslim and non-Muslim communities worldwide.

She also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Queen Mary University of London, along with further specialization in Telecommunications and Real-Time Electronics (with a focus on Satellite Communications) from the University of Bradford.

Complementing her academic and technical background, she holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Teaching from the University of Auckland, equipping her with the expertise to design and deliver impactful educational and leadership programmes.

In addition to her academic and professional work, Dr. Anwar serves on the boards of several global organisations. Notably, she is a working board member of Mutual Aid Networks (MANs) in Madison, USA, where waqf and her Islamic Social Entrepreneurship model is being implemented within a cooperative and regenerative economic framework—demonstrating the adaptability and global relevance of waqf-based systems beyond Muslim contexts.

As an author and scholar-practitioner, Dr. Anwar has made significant contributions to the field through publications such as Waqf (Endowment): A Vehicle for Islamic Social Entrepreneurship and Financing the Development of Old Waqf Properties.
