About Dr. Dzuljastri Abdul Razak :

Associate Professor Dr. Dzuljastri Abdul Razak is a distinguished scholar, Islamic finance practitioner, halal business strategist, and prominent advocate of the Islamic circular economy, with extensive expertise spanning banking, academia, sustainability, and halal industry development. He obtained his PhD in Islamic Banking and Finance from Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2011 and brings over 25 years of professional experience in the banking sector prior to transitioning into academia at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in 2003.

Currently serving as a Research Fellow at the Institute of Halal Research and Training (INHART), Dr. Dzuljastri has dedicated more than two decades to advancing research, education, and industry collaboration in Islamic finance, halal business, sustainable development, and ethical economic systems. Throughout his tenure at IIUM’s Kulliyyah of Economics and Management Sciences, he has held multiple leadership roles, including Senior Academic Fellow, Head of the Department of Finance, and Head of Internationalization.

Dr. Dzuljastri’s expertise encompasses Islamic banking, Islamic wealth management, halal SMEs, sustainable finance, halal entrepreneurship, and the integration of Islamic circular economy principles into halal business ecosystems. His work promotes value-based economic models rooted in Maqasid al-Shariah, emphasizing responsible production, ethical consumption, environmental stewardship, social justice, and sustainable resource utilization. He is particularly engaged in strengthening halal businesses through halalan tayyiban practices, circular business innovation, and sustainable halal supply chains that align religious principles with modern sustainability frameworks.

As a leading researcher and consultant, Dr. Dzuljastri has spearheaded numerous impactful research grants and industry collaborations, including comparative studies focused on enhancing the competitiveness of halal SMEs in Malaysia and Indonesia. His scholarly contributions include more than 30 publications in refereed and indexed journals, co-authorship of works on Islamic wealth management, and significant thought leadership in sustainable development, spirituality, and humanizing economic growth.

His growing influence in Islamic sustainable business is further evidenced by his recognition through the Outstanding Sustainability Practices Award at the Asia Pacific Sustainability Conference and Awards 2025, as well as his certification in Sustainable and Responsible Investment. Through his continued work, Dr. Dzuljastri champions the convergence of Islamic finance, halal certification, halal business innovation, and Islamic circular economy frameworks to foster resilient, ethical, and globally competitive halal ecosystems..

We are very grateful that Prof. Dzuljastri will educate us on the vital theme: “Circular Economy Integration in Halal Trade and ESG: Advancing Sustainable, Ethical, and Shariah-Compliant Business Practices.” This critical discussion addresses one of the most important dimensions of halal trade transformation, and he will explore the following key questions:

  1. How can halal trade systems redesign production and supply chains using circular economy models while preserving strict halal compliance from sourcing to distribution?

  2. What structural, financial, technological, and regulatory barriers hinder halal businesses from implementing circular economy strategies?

  3. How do ESG standards improve sustainability performance, transparency, and investor confidence in halal-certified sectors?

  4. How can halal certification standards be restructured to integrate circular economy requirements such as sustainable sourcing, zero-waste practices, and environmental governance?

  5. To what extent does Muslim consumer awareness of sustainability and ethical consumption influence demand for circular halal products?

  6. How can Islamic finance instruments such as green sukuk, waqf, and ESG-linked investments support sustainable transformation in halal industries?

  7. How can reducing waste, emissions, and inefficient resource use strengthen halal supply chain resilience and international competitiveness?

  8. What national policy reforms are required in Malaysia to align halal trade with circular economy objectives, ESG commitments, and sustainable development goals?

  9. How can waqf institutions be strategically mobilised to finance sustainable halal enterprises and circular economy infrastructure?

  10. What measurable economic growth, social welfare, and environmental sustainability outcomes can result from integrating circular economy and ESG frameworks into halal trade?

I look forward to your participation and valuable insights, in shaa Allah. Please share this opportunity widely within your networks so that others may benefit.

Yours Sister,
