About the Webinar

At a time marked by rising inflation, financial instability, and growing uncertainty, there is a pressing need to return to first principles and reflect on the true nature of money, trade, and economic life. What we often take for granted—currency, banking systems, and mechanisms of exchange—rests on assumptions that shape not only markets, but the moral condition of our societies.

Allah (SWT) reminds us: “And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly…” (Qur’an 2:188)

This webinar seeks to revisit these questions through the lens of the Islamic intellectual and legal tradition. It brings together scholars and practitioners to examine how the modern economic system has become structured around debt—such that debt itself functions as money—fueling cycles of inflation, dependency, and systemic imbalance.

Allah (SWT) has made the distinction clear: “Allah has permitted trade and forbidden riba” (Qur’an 2:275)

In contrast, Islam offers a principled framework through muʿāmalāt—the system governing trade and economic relations—rooted in justice (ʿadl), transparency, and real value.

The Messenger of Allah (SWT) said: “If both parties in a transaction are truthful and clear, their transaction will be blessed.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

This discussion goes beyond theory. It draws from the Prophetic model of Madinah, where worship, law, and commerce were unified. The Prophet (SWT) established a just and open marketplace, embodying the command:

“Give full measure and weight in justice” (Qur’an 6:152)
